Wind in the Front Range
It's Monday as hell, and the week has started with a roar. Here in the Colorado Front Range, we're facing relentless gusts as a severe wind warning keeps the trees swaying and the skies swirling. I had my camera gear ready to capture the beauty of nature today, but the wind had other plans. Instead of basking in sunshine, we find ourselves hunkering down, shielding from nature's formidable forces.
Despite the setback, I remain committed to uncovering the Missed Mile Markers of our local landscapes. The wind may have grounded my outdoor photography plans, but it hasn't dampened my spirit. As the gusts shake the branches and whip the leaves into frenzied spirals, I'm reminded that nature’s moods, even the harsh ones, are part of the unique charm of the Colorado Front Range. Stay tuned for more, because once this storm passes, the camera will be out, ready to capture the beauty that inevitably follows.

In the first image, two mallards rest peacefully on the soft shoreline of a tranquil lake. Nestled between rocks and dappled in sunlight, they enjoy a quiet moment amid the gentle ripples on the water's surface. The reflections of the sky and nearby trees create a calming, mirror-like effect that enhances the serene scene, inviting us to slow down and observe the natural rhythms of wildlife.
Picture 2: Snowy Egret and Rippling Water
The second photo showcases the Snowy Egret, poised gracefully on a stone while the wind gently stirs the reeds around it. The rippling water reflects the clear sky and the egret’s elegant silhouette, framed by the slender reeds that create a natural screen. This captivating image speaks to the bird's solitary beauty and its patient vigilance as it watches the lake, perhaps searching for its next m
eal.
Picture 3: Ducks Resting Together
The third picture captures another angle of the mallards resting on the bank, emphasizing their close companionship as they bask in the warm sun. They are curled up side by side, the gentle breeze rustling their feathers as they nap. Their tranquil stillness contrasts with the vibrant reflections on the water, showcasing how wildlife thrives even in the heart of an urban landscape.
Picture 4: Snowy Egret Framed by Reeds
In the fourth photo, the Snowy Egret is framed perfectly by the reeds, creating a
composition that highlights the egret's pristine plumage against the dark water. The interplay of light and shadow across the water’s surface adds a painterly quality, emphasizing the egret's elegance and the delicate ecology that surrounds it. It’s a moment that brings a sense of discovery as we glimpse this beautiful bird’s natural habitat.
Picture 5: Ducks on the Lakeshore
In the final image, the mallards appear relaxed on the
lakeshore, surrounded by the rugged beauty of rocks and shoreline vegetation. The crystal-clear blue of the lake reflects the spring sky above, creating a striking backdrop that contrasts with the ducks’ earth-toned feathers. This harmonious blend of colors and textures illustrates how the simple joy of observing wildlife can transport us into a peaceful reverie, even on an ordinary day.
